What does the Bible say about Prayer?
NKJV, NIV
Does Jesus really answer prayers?
Why are some prayers answered and others are not?

These NIV Bible verses will help you understand prayer!

Matthew 6:5-8 …when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.

John 14:13-14 (Jesus said) ...I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it.

However you should...

John 15:16 ...bear fruit—fruit that will last.

Galatians 5:22-23 ...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Jesus promises...

John 15:16 ..."Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in My name."

Psalm 145:18-19 The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

1John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.

1John 3:21-22 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.

John 15:7 (Jesus said) If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.

Psalm 102:17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; He will not despise their plea.

Proverbs 15:8 …the prayer of the upright pleases Him.

Luke 18:1 …always pray and not give up.

James 5:16 The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

Proverbs 10:24 ...what the righteous desire will be granted.

Proverbs 15:29 …The LORD is far from the wicked but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

Matthew 21:22 …If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Remember…

Mark 9:23 (Jesus said) "Everything is possible for him who believes."

James 1:6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:7-8 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

Therefore do not doubt!

Mark 5:36 "Don't be afraid; just believe."

Mark 11:22-24 …"Have faith in God,"... (Jesus said) ..."I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Colossians 4:2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Sometimes the answers to prayers are delayed...

Example: Daniel 10:12-13 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.

To the righteous...

Psalm 20:5 …May the LORD grant all your requests.

To the wicked…

James 4:2-3 You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Isaiah 1:15-16 When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood; wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong, learn to do right!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

It is time to call on Jesus from a pure heart!
