NKJV, NIV
Is it better to be baptized by water or by the Holy Spirit? Does man have the power to baptize us? Should we put our confidence in water baptism or is there a better baptism?

These doctrines of Jesus have the true answer!

Acts 18:24-26
...a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures... ...knew only the baptism of John. ...Aquila and Priscilla... ... took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Here are some scriptures we would have used if we were Aquila and Priscilla.

Question...

Acts 19:2 ...Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

Those in Ephesus answered...

Acts 19-2 (continued) “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

If you have answered similarly...

Acts 19:3 ...“Into what then were you baptized?”

Those in Ephesus answered...

Acts 19:3 (continued) ...“Into John’s baptism.”

1John 5:8 ...there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.

Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism...

Surely...

Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved...

But into what baptism?

John 3:5-6 (Jesus said) “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Mark 1:4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Matthew 3:11 (John said) I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Matthew 3:13-17 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John 1:32-34 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

1 John 5:6 This is He who came by water and bloodJesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Matthew 20:23 (Jesus said)...You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with...

Acts 1:5 John truly baptized with water but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit...

The baptism of Jesus' word, blood, water, fire and Holy Spirit is the...

1Peter 3:21 ...antitype which now saves us...(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ...

Did you know that the antitype is that which is foretold by a type or symbol. For example, a New Testament event symbolized in the Old Testament, such as the annual sacrifice of a lamb which foreshadowed Jesus, the lamb of God, being sacrificed for our sins.

Acts 19:4-6 ...“John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” When they (those of Ephesus) heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

Have you been baptized by Jesus' word, blood, water, fire, and Holy Spirit or are you like those who only partook in John's baptism? If the latter is so...

Acts 2:38 Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

To those who are and will be baptized Remember...

Romans 6:3-11 ...as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Revelations 22:1 ...a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Jeremiah 17:13 ...(The Lord is) The fountain of living waters...

What really washes us clean?

Ephesians 5:26 ...washing of water by the word...

John 15:3 (Jesus said) You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.

Praise Jesus...

Revelations 1:5 ...Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood...

Ephesians 1:7-8 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence...

1John 1:7 ...the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Acts 10:44-48 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

Isn't the evidence of baptism a life that has been redeemed from sin by the blood of Jesus? One that is committed to the water of His Word, and filled by His Holy Spirit? Or are we putting more confidence in the tradition of John's baptism, trusting in it for our cleansing rather than trusting in Jesus for our purification?

What are you baptized into?

Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit?

If you've been baptized and don't see a change in your life, you haven't been baptized into Jesus' baptism of the Holy Spirit!

If you would like to be baptized by Jesus with His Holy Spirit and power... Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
