Mission To Mexico Finds Devastation

"You are the only ones who came to help us" were the words spoken to a recent missions team to Mexico. The woman was one of 45 families who lost their homes and everything they owned to the flooding Rio Grande River.

Rev. Norman R. Beetler of BUSES International headed the team from Ohio, Pennsylvania and Canada and said it was a very eerie feeling to drive the bus into the devastated area and see debris in the trees 2 feet above the bus roof. The current was so strong it even knocked down cement block houses. Rev. Beetler said it was such a privilege to give these dear people clothing, food, haircuts, and a hope-filled Gospel message. One 14 year old boy, whose home was washed away, said his family is living with a relative and that there are 30 people in the home.

Dr. Lou Caratolla, a dentist from New London, Ohio, was a member of the team and served dozens of people with dental care. "Their teeth are very bad,"said Beetler. "They don’t know they should brush their teeth."

A team leaves again on December 26th with the "shoe box gifts" for the children. If you would like to help, phone 440-233-6991 or 233-4091. If you would like to go on a team, there are openings in April, June, July, and August, but since teams fill up fast, call soon.

Connection Magazine will donate $2,000.00 in free advertisement and WZLE will donate $1,000.00 in commercials to the business or group who donates the most shoe box gifts. The gifts must be received by December 5, 1998.
